Ulrich Knaack
|
Professor Dr. Ing. Ulrich Knaack was trained as an architect at the RWTH Aachen / Germany where he after his studied attended as researcher in the field of structural use of glass and finished with a PhD. Then he worked as architect and general planner in Düsseldorf / Germany succeeding in national and international competitions. His projects include high-rise and offices buildings, commercials and stations. Today he is Professor for Design and Construction at the Detmolder Schule für Architektur und Innenarchitektur at the Hochschule OWL / Germany. Parallel he is appointed as Professor for Design of Construction at the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands where he developed the Façade Research Group. He organized interdisciplinary design workshops and symposiums with themes like facades, High Rise and complex buildings and is author of several well-known references books, articles and lectures.

|
Mario A. Chiorino, FACI, is Emeritus Professor of Structural Mechanics at the School of Architecture, Politecnico di Torino, Italy. He is a Member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin, of several international organizations including fib, IABSE, IASS. He is a member of the ACI International Committee and ACI Committee 209, Creep and Shrinkage in Concrete. He has published many papers and books on structure and architecture, structural mechanics and its history, concrete viscoelasticity, and has been designer of large reinforced and prestressed concrete structures, including buildings, bridges, tall chimneys, and nuclear plants.

Randolph Langenbach |
Langenbach has degrees from Harvard in the United States and the Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies in York, England. He is co-author of the book, Amoskeag (Random House) and also of Satanic Mills, (SAVE Britain’s Heritage). It was this early work on the 19th century brick and stone factories which were subjected to the substantial vibrations from the power looms that launched his later life’s work on earthquake-resistant forms of masonry and timber construction world-wide. In addition to his many papers (see www.conservationtech.com), he has been invited to deliver many keynote addresses around the world. He is author and photographer for the 2009 UNESCO book Don’t Tear It Down! Preserving the Earthquake Resistant Vernacular Architecture of Kashmir, www.traditional-is-modern.net. In 2010, he led a technical team to Haiti to survey damage to the historic Gingerbread Houses in Port-au-Prince for the World Monuments Fund, and is co-author for the book from that mission published by the WMF: Preserving Haiti’s Gingerbread Houses, freely available at www.haiti-patrimoine.org. In 2002 he received a Rome Prize Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome for his work. For 10 years, he served as Senior Analyst for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and before that, he was Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley. More recently, he has served as visiting professor at the University of Brescia in Italy

Born in 1950. Dr. Architect in Seville. Fulbrigth granted in Berkeley and Full Professor of the University of Seville. Specialised in design of structures for architecture and author of several important designs for the EXPO 92 in Seville and Zaragosa 2008, Working in the field of Tensile, Deployable and Space Structures. Among other prices and distinctions Escrig has two IFAI Award in USA, two Tsuboy Awards, the Pioneer Award of the Space Research Centre of the University of Surrey, Alluprogecto first Prize 2005 and Instituto Construccion Tubular first Price 2006. Organiser of several symposia in the field of structures and current participant in others. Editor of STAR (Structural Architecture) in the University of Seville. Editor of “Starbooks.com”. Author of more than hundred technical papers, other twenty of popular science and seven principal books. He has published several books on Historical Buildings: “The Great Structures in Architecture” and “Towers and Domes in Architecture” by WIT and “La Modernidad del Gótico”. He is also a Novelist who has published recently “The Goodness of Venice” in Spanish. He has patented several models of structural interest”. Former Dean of the School of Architecture of Seville and Head of the Department of Structures. At this moment he is retired from academics.
